Our freshman dark bay stallion is by USEF Horse of the Year Pik L, out of a Rohdiamant mare. Pikko del Cerro HU is a fantastic athlete with elastic movement, natural balance and self-carriage. His dam Rohweena, by the legendary Rohdiamant, carries the blood of sport horse nobility. The combination of the Pik Bube II line with Rohdiamant has proven exceptional. Our homebred started winning early on, and has racked up title after title on his way to a successful international dressage career. Cerro’s wins have come both in-hand and under saddle, setting records, including a record setting score of 90 points at Dressage at Devon. At this venue he has won nearly every under saddle class he has competed in, never receiving less than 80%.
As an FEI horse, Pikko del Cerro HU has solidified his place as one of the best U.S.-bred dressage horses today. This Pik L son has proven his talent at every stage of his development. In 2009, Mikala Gundersen rode Cerro to his first National Championship. Named USEF/Markel Six Year Old National Dressage Champion, the stallion showed he inherited the outstanding work ethic his sire is known for. His current partnership with Olympian Lisa Wilcox has produced many CDI wins and championships. In their first attempt, they won the 2011 USEF National Developing Horse National Championship. The following year they parlayed this success with yet another national title. Pikko del Cerro HU became a three-time National Champion by winning the 2012 USEF National Developing Grand Prix Horse Championship.
During 2013, Pikko del Cerro HU graduated to the International CDI Grand Prix ring with Lisa Wilcox and had multiple CDI wins with scores over 70%. In the fall, Cerro traveled to Europe to focus on daily training under the watchful eye of Wilcox’s long-time trainer Ernst Hoyos. Mr. Hoyos is a dressage master and known for his nearly three decades at the Spanish Riding School and coach to multiple Olympic medalists. During Pikko del Cerro’s European tour he won two Grand Prix classes against stiff German competition. His first foals will arrive in 2014!
